Passion Pit, Baths and locals Radclyffe Hall shine at Converse Rubber Tracks

The Sinclair was packed last night for Passion Pit’s headlining concert.  The show was part of a special free five night series of shows presented by Converse’s Rubber Tracks Studio. Lucky attendees were selected from a random lottery, and local heroes Passion Pit took over the Sinclair on the second night. The Replacements opened things up on Monday, while upcoming acts Slayer (April 29), Chance the Rapper (April 30) and Descendents (May 1) fill out the week…

Mayor Walsh Proclaims April 9 ‘Riot Grrrl Day’ in Boston

All Riot Grrrl’s to the front: Mayor Walsh has officially proclaimed tomorrow ‘Riot Grrrl Day’ in Boston to honor Kathleen Hanna and her activism in the punk rock feminist movement.

The proclamation is “inspired by and in part adapted from” the original Riot Grrrl manifesto Hanna wrote for the Bikini Kill fanzine, ‘Girl Power,’ and focuses on issues like reproductive rights, equal pay and free creative expression. Kathleen Hanna is feeling pretty good about getting back on Stage

Mention the ’90s feminist/punk rock movement Riot Grrrl, and two things come to mind: the band Bikini Kill and its activist frontwoman, Kathleen Hanna. Since then, Hanna has started two new bands, Le Tigre and The Julie Ruin, battled Lyme Disease and married fellow ’90s music icon, Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz. Now, between writing a new album and lecturing on feminism and equality, Hanna is coming to the Wilbur Theater for ‘An Evening with Kathleen Hanna.’ She talked to us about her ’90s days, feminism in the music industry and how it feels to get back on stage…

Lucy Williams has to deliver a photo to one of her former #NOW Portrait subjects: Desmond, a shopkeep in Bricklane who was an extra in the 1971 film, “A Clockwork Orange.” She reintroduces herself, though he doesn’t seem to remember her, and reveals the photo.

After a moment, “Bloody hell! Who is that handsome man?” he starts smiling for the first time since we approached him. His eyes light up as he stares at the forgotten photograph, as we walk away, Lucy smiles and expresses how excited she is to have given him that moment of joy…
